Caregivers who are eligible can now apply for the SASSA child grant top-up at their local SASSA office or online at services.sassa.gov.za effective 1 June 2022.
The CSG top-up was implemented to help relatives caring for orphans meet their basic needs. The goal is to maintain orphans in their extended family environment rather than uprooting them from familiar households.
These children will get R480 in basic CSG and an extra R240, for a total of R720.
To qualify, applicants must
- provide certified copies of the child’s parents’ death certificates, or,
- if the death certificate of one of the parents cannot be obtained by the applicant, a certified copy of the death certificate of one parent and an affidavit by the applicant attesting to the unknown status of the child’s other parent.
