Will the SRD grant be increased in 2023?

Great news for social grant recipients: their monthly payments will be increased beginning April 1, 2023. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana made this announcement during his National Budget speech at Cape Town City Hall on Wednesday, February 23, 2023.

In 2022, the Department of Social Development received the highest budget allocation to provide social relief to millions of South Africans affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The new monthly amounts for social grants beneficiaries are as follows:

  • Older Person’s Grant: increasing by R90 on 1 April and R10 in October 2023, totaling R2090.
